Saturdays gone wrong
8 September 2007Saturdays often seem to blow up in our faces. They’re generally worse than “weekdays” (like there’s much of a difference) because the randomness of the days are beyond our level of mental preparedness.
Several Saturdays ago, Caleb was actually sleeping in past 7. This was rare so, of course, Florence and I took advantage of the […]
WAWA
25 July 2007WAWA…this is an acronym we learned from some good friends at language school. Experienced missionaries who had already spent several years in Niger, they warned us about the WAWA effect anytime you make any plans. “West Africa Wins Again”, they said.
We had a WAWA experience today. Today, July 25th, was the day we were planning to […]
Life in Ouagadougou
22 July 2007We just returned from church here in Ouagadougou. The church service was a hot, fly-infested two and a half hours (shorter than usual!). There was all sorts of music and dancing for about an hour, and then some “announcements”. We got to introduce ourselves and greet the church. But the funniest thing was the offering!
Right […]
Tickets bought - 10 weeks to go!
5 May 2007Our plans are moving ahead. It’s so hard to believe how fast time is flying!
We’ve purchased our tickets. If all goes according to plan, we will arrive in Burkina Faso on July 13. We got our visa applications in the mail yesterday, so please pray that all goes well with the visas!
We’re about sick of […]
French Success
15 April 2007What a great feeling, praise God! Sometimes language learning can be so slow, it’s hard to tell if you’re making any progress. Well, last week we got some confirmation that we’re making progress!
In order to make the decision about moving to Burkina Faso this July, I (Dale) had to take a language aptitude test (LAMP) mid-term to […]
False Friends
18 February 2007When learning French, you find that there are a ton of “cognates” - words that are spelled the same as English words and have similar meanings. Even so, they are pronounced so differently in French, it’s hard to recognize them.
However, there are also “False Friends” (or faux amis) - words that are spelled the same […]
Friends’ Blog
31 January 2007Hello again, “tout le monde”! (which means “everyone” and sounds like “too luh moaned”)
We just wanted to provide you with the link to the blog of the couple who lives in the appartment across from ours.

She’s a photo-journalist, and she’s got some great pictures (of Quebec and otherwise) on their site. They’re going to Haiti to […]
HOW cold was it??!!
31 January 2007For the first couple of weeks, I was a little disappointed in our Quebec winter. “Heh…this ain’t so bad”, he thought smuggly.
Oops…we’ve had a couple of nights recently below -25 degrees with a wind chill of -40!!!
When you walk outside, it takes approximately 10 seconds for the inside of your nose to freeze solid. (Thanks, Dale, […]
“Hein?”
21 January 2007I guess it’s my (Florence) turn to post something on our blog…you’ll have to forgive us if we’re not “true” bloggers who put new things up daily (or hourly!), but we’ll try to put some fresh stuff up once a week. Random thoughts and such.
We’ve had quite a week. We were in Pennsylvania last weekend […]
